BLT 3/8 US Marine Corps: The 8th Marine Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The mission of BLT 3/8 is to "Locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver; or to repel the enemy's assault by fire and close combat."To accomplish this, the battalion's organic complement of three rifle, a weapons, and a headquarters company are reinforced by a variety of forces from throughout the 2d Marine Division, to include a tank platoon, assault amphibian platoon, light armored reconnaissance platoon, and an artillery battery. Collectively, the reinforced battalion is referred to as a Battalion Landing Team. The Marine unit initially deployed to Haiti on 29 February 2004 was probably part of the Air Contingency Battalion. At any given time there is at least one at Camp Lejeune ready to respond on short notice in a matter of hours.
